Shirin Kavin (- Winiger, born 1984 into a Swiss-Iranian family) is a self-taught artist based in Zurich. / previously living and working in Berlin (2007 – 2010) and in Vienna (2014 – 2019).

Continuously driven by a deep fascination for being human, anatomical and psychological structures and the abstract nature of the soul, Shirin moved through fields of performance on to body modification and later via make-up artistry to photography.

With an exceedingly sensitive and equally uncompromising imagery, the artist devotes herself to examining human existence while experimenting with photography, sculptural objects, video, painting, poetry and mixed media installations.

“It is an attempt to free something from the subconscious. Mental states and inner pictures. To face them and be faced by them.”

She is also a loving mother of two sons.
